// black intimacy isn’t often photographed. sometimes it’s hyper-sexualized or exaggerated. when we set out to plan this photoshoot, we noticed the lack of black faces in these style of images. that’s odd because as POCs, we know it exists and we exist within it. so as black creatives, we created own. //

‪National Freedom Day 2019 —‬ In December 2012, @dailymail published an article titled “picturing freedom: how former slaves used photography to imagine and create their new lives after emancipation” ‪—‬ We’ve always used photography as a tool to tell our story, whether it be propaganda to tell the white man how “former slaves could become respectable 5/5ths. Today, we continue to use photography to advance our narratives, to show our progress and to document our plights.
Portrait photography of our people hasn’t always been represented appropriately but we believe we can change that. Visit portraitnoire.com
